Sand is the first problem in any coastal home. Set up a rinse station by the door: a hose or outdoor shower, a boot tray, and a rough outdoor mat followed by a softer indoor one. Every grain that stays outside is one you don't have to vacuum later.
Salt air leaves a hazy film on windows, sliding doors, mirrors, and even stainless appliances. Wipe glass with a damp microfiber cloth first, then a dry one. Regular wiping prevents the buildup that later needs real scrubbing.
Humidity is the quiet one. Bathrooms and closets near the water grow mildew quickly in summer. Run the bathroom fan during and after showers, leave shower doors open to dry, and wash bath mats and towels often.
Floors take the most abuse. Sand acts like sandpaper on hardwood and LVP, so vacuum or sweep before you mop, never after. Furniture pads and entry rugs help protect the finish.
When the season gets busy, a regular cleaning schedule takes this off your list. Sandy's Cleaning Services cleans coastal homes from Emerald Isle to Beaufort every week, and we know exactly where the sand hides.
